The 5 best green tomato recipes

It's the time of year when anyone who grows tomatoes might have some green ones left on the plant, with no chance now of ripening. So I thought I'd put my favourite recipes in one place for anyone wondering what to do with green tomatoes. And not a jar of chutney in sight...



1. Green tomato and lentil curry



Filling, warming and spicy - with amazing depth of flavour, considering that you can make this in half an hour. I like to make double as the leftovers are even better the next day.

This pasta sauce is ready in 20 minutes - perfect for a quick weeknight dinner.

5. Green tomatoes on toast



This one is hardly even a recipe, more an idea for a quick, healthy and delicious snack. Toast a couple of substantial slices of bread (I'd use a good-quality wholemeal). Rub lightly with half a clove of garlic and top with tomato slices. Grill again briefly to warm the tomato. Add a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and some fresh basil leaves. This is delicious as a quick brunch with a poached egg on top, but cheese or pesto would be excellent alternatives.
